Fotona's vertical integration

RD expertise
We are dedicated to know-how. An impressive number of solid state lasers, built into instruments or designed as modules for integration into systems, speak for our expertise. The rapid development of new technologies has created new demands on our skill, only to spur us to meet with new challenges.

Optical workshop
Ability to manufacture most demanding optical components in house is one of our main competitive advantage. Modern cutting and polishing machines, controlled by experienced master opticians, produce precise optical parts. The final step for these home-made components is usually in the vacuum coating unit where they attain their definite function and look by dielectric or metal coating for operation in the visible or IR region.

Mechanical workshop

Our modern, CAD linked CNC machines insure precision, repeatability and speed of production of complex mechanical subassemblies regardless of the material: They can process aluminum alloys, casts, stainless steel, titanium, brass, bronze or synthetic. Our know-how includes air-cushioned diamond machining of flat and curved metal mirrors, and laser materials processing such as cutting, drilling, engraving and other methods of precise surface treatment of most exacting materials. Added by computers are optical system designs are optimal for every instrument.

Electronics workshop

Most of the electronics hardware and software is developed by ourselves. The in-house manufacturing and control assure durability, reliability and safety of all our systems.

Three Major Wavelengths: All Major Applications

At the heart of the Fotona medical laser systems are three complimentary wavelengths in terms of their effect on the human tissue: Er:YAG, Nd:YAG and KTP:YAG.

Er:YAG (infrared 2940 nm)
Highest absorption for precise tissue ablation.

Nd:YAG (infrared 1064 nm)
Most homogeneous absorption for surgery, disinfection and treatment of deeper seated tissue structures.

KTP:YAG (green 532 nm)
High absorption in oxyhemoglobin and melanin for selective photothermolysis.

VSP Technology: Precision, Safety and Power

By its proprietary VSP (Variable Square Pulse) Technology Fotona has moved the precision of laser treatments to a new dimension. This technology allows the operator to accommodate the laser pulse duration and its fluence according to the application. By the means of digital on line energy regulation, the energy of each pulse is actively forced to match the selective energy at all times during the laser operation. This enables the practitioner to treat selected tissues with unmatched efficacy and without unnecessary heating of the surrounding tissue.

Laser System Platforms: Versatility and Upgradeability

The advance medical laser family concept allows a combination of two laser wavelengths in the same unit. This feature allows the practitioner to choose a versatile system combination optimized for his practice, or to upgrade the system later when additional applications are required.
